Proper 27

Our collect for this week reminds the hearers that we are called to be children of God and that we have no need to fear the works of the devil. Christ has conquered evil. Christ has destroyed death. We have no need to fear anything that the accuser can throw at us due to the fact that through the resurrection of Christ sin and death has been put in their place and our place as children of God has been restored. As children of God, we are heirs of the kingdom. We are heirs of eternal life. Life is ours through Christ. Death is finished.

Since we know this we are reminded that we are called to purify ourselves. Not in and through ourselves, but rather in and through Christ, we are able to purify ourselves and become who we are supposed to be. We can live out the fact that we are the children of God, we can be pure and holy like our savior Christ, we can be made like him in his glorious and eternal kingdom because of what Christ has done for us. Christ has rendered useless the works of the devil and has redeemed us. The victory is ours because the victory is Christ and Christ himself is our victory.
